Does anyone know if a Windows 98 can be set up to a Wireless G router?

I am afraid that my old Windows 98 is junk and I am unable to use it for internet no more. I just recently purchased a D Link 615 to upgrade a previous D Link wireless network I had, which worked great with my Windows 98 computer. The upgrade to the new roeuter does allow me to connect to the internet on the old computer. What do I do, go back to the old and return the new one?

  1. YES OF COURSE

  2. A router is totally system independent as it runs standalone. It does NOT need drivers to connect. If your network settings are correct it should connect automatically. If you connect it by cable it should pick up automatic tcp/ip information. If you are using wireless You must NOT install any software for the router. You should use the wireless card's connection program to search for your router, set the encryption key and connect. A lot of the cards with 98 support do not cover WPA encryption, you may need to use WEP, some of them will only manage 64 bit WEP. The N router is backward compatible with B and G wireless. I do not think any N type cards have 98 support, so stick to your G card.

  3. Yes it can. I have a windows 98 pc strictly for use with old games. I have a pci wireless card in it and it can be setup to work. Mine works fine.

  4. Check the box on the new router to see if windows 98 can run the software that came with router. Windows 98??Dude seriously, time to upgrade...

  5. there should be no reason why it wouldn't work try looking for some sort of setting for the router or even look at the router manual to see if it supports windows 98...I know windows 98 supports router...xD

  6. It will definitely work on Ethernet.

To use it with a wireless adapter, you will need to have Windows 98 Second Edition.

Right click on My Computer and click on properties. The system information windows will pop up and tell you what version of Win98 you are using.
