   Probably. Believe it or not AJ Smith proud owner of the biggest Ego west of the Missisippi, has a long and distinguished record of self sabotage.

  Charger should have been in or won 3 super bowls the last 5 years. He hired Marty Shoutenheimer, are you kidding me? Marty couldn't  win in playoffs.

  Also the last 5 years everyone in the league, reporters, fans, media, even my Granny f had all said "why don't the Chargers get a secondary?"

   Yet it took AJ (maybe he is a slow study?) 5 years to finally figure out a secondary matters, after  getting toasted time after time after time. Chargers had always had a good run defense.

    Also he drafted RYAN LEAF number 1, the most infamous draft BUST of all time. No AJ doesn't care about winning Super Bowl,he just wants get satisfaction by getting players for less than they are worth, and making players agents look stupid. Nothing can come between him and his arrogance

AJ didn't hire Schottenheimer John butler did.

Leaf was let go when Butler was hired.

He wont even need to make the choice.  Merriman will blow his knee out in a few games he will never be the same so they wont need to resign him.

If the Chargers don't re-sign Merriman, that's all on him.  I can't believe that he's actually going to play on that knee.  Especially since his free agency year will be next season.  

If he plays at a high level this year, then has surgery, its ludicrous to think he'll be able to play even half the games next year.  Those types of injuries put you out of commission for almost a year after surgery.  The Chargers will make the playoffs, which means he won't have surgery until February, which means he'll be lucky to play half a season next year.  That's all assuming he doesn't end his career by playing this year.

Merriman is going to permanently damage that knee by not having the surgery he has had 4 Dr's. tell him he needs. If Smith is smart he will trade him and let some other team deal with the injury. Then he will get something for him and be able to field a complete team before the knee completely breaks down.

He must really think he's going to the superbowl if he's playing with a bad knee.  Chances are,he'll come out, give it a shot and when he realizes he can't move nearly as well on that knee, he go on the PUP list and get his surgery.  He's a moron if he plays the whole season.
