The battery died in my car so I got a jump and to make my car start I accelerated rapidly and it started. Will accelerating rapidly like that damage anything under the hood? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  1. What happens when you accelerate is that you are ramping up the RPM of your alternator.  The alternator, is what helps run electrical equiptment and what RE-charges up your battery while the motor is running.  I wouldn't necessarily advise flooring it, but rather, I would have someone gradually rev up the RPM's in the charged car while someone in the dead car trys to turn theirs over.  If it sounds like you're giving it quite a bit, you probably are... if you have a meter... don't RED LINE IT.  If it wasn't working, at a pretty good RPM, I would go and check to make sure you have made a SOLID connection (sometimes things like paint gets in the way) and then try the process over again.  I hope this helps.

  2. na it wont...dont worry...

  3. NO

  4. it shouldnt

  5. No it shouldn't damage it unless u were revving it to the red line and it wasn't moving as this well damage the car anyway, but i do note when i say revving it to the red line i mean revving it there and keeping it there for a 5+ seconds to do any sort of damage also if the problem persists take it to a garage do not take it to the manufactures as it will double in price and the work will be of the same quality.

hope this helps! best of wishes to your car and yourself hope u find what u need in this answer.

  6. Probably not in almost all newer cars. Harsh acceleration on a cold engine is never a good idea though.

If your battery dies again you would be doing yourself a big favor to replace it.

  7. Not really to my knowledge but best to accelerate slowly.

  8. By increasing the engines rpm's, you allowed the alternator to go to full field and give the maximum output that it was capable of. This is a common and recommended practice if jumping is your only option. Just don't ever cross the wires or your in big trouble. These new cars with their computers don't like that one bit.
