I thought they looked at each case on its own merit, but my son was told he wouldn't be able to join as he has unspent convictions. one of which was when he was 18, he is now 22.

  1. it depends what the convictions are for, anything to do with guns, s*x or violence and you've got no chance in the Aussie army. What country are you in? I'm guessing England. Your son should be able to get someone to consider taking him on if he makes an appointment with the army careers officers. if the offences are unspent then he stands a high chance but again, it will probably depend on what the convictions where for.

  2. it depends on what they did.my son and his friends stole two boys mobile phones  i was told my son cannot join the army as he has unspent convictions.

  3. It was my understanding that the military was so desperate for recruits that they have been employing felons and even foreign nationals.  When business is good, they have to go bad.  How bad was your son?  Maybe he should move to Uganda?

  4. It depends on what the crimes are.  Best bet is to take him to a recruiting office in a horrible neighborhood.  Requirements for joining actually very by area.  I.E. I was living in a wealthy neighborhood in TN. I couldnt join do to having a ged.  So i went back to illinois, and they not only let me join with a ged, but payed for the testing.  So if you go to an area with a higher crime rate, they can work the criminal wavers alot easier.

  5. what is an unspent conviction?

  6. The army has been continuously unable to meet projected quota's as the wars grow more and more unpopular and people are feeling betrayed as they learn about the lies and manipulations that went on to get the public 'to go along'.

To meet quota's The Army has done 2 things to meet quota's.

    1) Started  recruiting to the far edges of

Empire.  Recruiters are showing up in the

poorest slums of the Cities of Latin America,

       The  Philippine's etc. Accompanied with

translators, shinny pamphlets , and the

the promise of American Citizenship upon

       completion of Contract/Tour of Duty.

    2) Headed to the Courts and Jails, basic same deal

'Military will drop jail time and provide an

education. Just sign on the dotted line.

    3) Instituted this 'stop gap' measure which

basically allows the Military to ignore all

promises of when contract/tour is complete. Not

only extending stay of soldiers in war zones

but also re-deploying them over and over. Some

are back for 4th and 5th times.

I said 2 but I remembered the third. So the Army is not very fussy these days and has abandoned most of the recruiting standards in place during Peace Time.....Mary.

  7. Sorry, tell him to stay with his job working at McDonalds!

WE really don't want felons within our ranks!

  8. I think its posiable

  9. Try the French Foreign Legion. They really don't give a ****!!

  10. Just tell him to go into the local army careers office they will be able to tell him straight away and also get him started with his application

My boyfriend went in the army when we'd been together 3 years and at first it was great but now he's changed and not for the better, the army does really change people I wish my boyfriend had never joined.

Tell your son good luck it's a great life especially if he's young, free and single not so good if he's got a close family and a girlfriend.

Oh yeah forgot to say they are desperate to recruit as so many are and have been trying to get out of the army since they passed their trade training plus with everything that's started to kick off in Afghanistan this is the time they need people as all the ones coming back from tour are leaving after serving less than their four years that they signed up for.

As I would also expect if your son joins that he would be deployed within a year to Afghanistan on his first 6 month tour, which will either make him or break him. I've two friends in the army one has been in from 16 the other 2 and half years, the first has been to Iraq and Afghanistan the other is currently serving in Afghanistan. The first one loves it and plans to do a full 22 years the other is leaving when he returns at the end of September.

    Good Luck

  11. What the recruiting staff told him is true.

You have to be clear of any convictions for at least 5 years.

It is true your early life comes back to haunt you.
