Does anyone know if its possible to take a train from long island to boston?

  1. Yes.  Take the Long Island Rail Road to Penn Station NYC (the main downtown station).  Go upstairs and take an Amtrak to Boston.  

    Amtrak trains are all-reserved, so you'll need to buy a ticket in advance.  (it can be 30 minutes in advance if there are seats.)


  2. Unfortunately no.

    The best you can do is take the LIRR to Penn Station.  from there you have to get an Amtrak train (either a Northeast Regional train or Acela Express).

    You have to check the Amtrak site:http://www.amtrak.com  for schedules and fares (can vary by train and some trains need reservations).

    The trip from Penn Station to Boston will take anywhere 3 1/2 hours to 4 hours 25 minutes (depends on train)
