Does anyone know if lavasoft is a good free anti spyware download???

Yes.  It's called Ad-aware by Lavasoft.  Very good at finding spyware.  But it seems to concentrate on minor spyware.  I use Spybot Search and Destroy also.  It seems to find major spyware.  Both Ad-aware and Spybot are recommended.  I also use AVG Antivirus 8.0 (free version), which now scans for spyware as well as viruses.

if you use firefox 3 you don't get much spyware, so switch to that if you dont have it..

and to get rid of the rest you can use avg

I'd really don't recommend you using a free anti-spyware. Read the article I added at the link below before you do that.

Unless you want to continually be fighting computer problems, then I suggest you spend a mere $30 or so to get a top of the line spyware cleaner.
