Question:

Does anyone know if sunscreen for people is safe for horses?

Both of my horses are getting some sunburn on their noses. It is down too low for the long nose fly masks to help. I know there Quic-Shade, but I don't know that it really provides enough protection. Would it be safe to use a 30 to 50 spf sunscreen on their noses?

  1. Yepp i use it everyday, and i also have a mask that goes on there headcollars and it covers from there noseband area to bottom of there lips they are good, but yeah sunscreen is fine for them.x


  2. Yes my friend uses it on his horse but i would get baby in case they eat it it will not harm them

  3. I know it would be fine, but if I were you I would get baby sunscreen. I use it on paints at my barn all the time!!!

  4. My vet specifically told me to use human sunscreen on my pink nosed paint, so I know it's okay.

  5. I used it for years on my paint who had a white nose... it worked just fine.  Zinc Oxide is even better.

  6. Yes, definately safe. Some people say it works better than horse sunscreen.

  7. I use sunscreen on all my white faced horses... they tend to get burn easily spf 15 or higher

  9. I've been advised by many that human sunscreen is perfectly fine to use, but I'm sure as with anything, the animal alternative would be better.

  10. yer course just watch they don't rub it off i tryed horse sunscream and my horse was still getting alittle bit brunt i then put people sunscream on her and she wasn't getting burnt anymore!

  11. Watch that.  Tried it on a medicine hat we had and it must have burned or itches because she rubbed it off so hard she left scabs.

  12. yes, but try to avoid the really sticky stuff, that really bothers my horse.  i prefer the oil free sunscreen

  13. yes i use it on my horses everyday  ... just cake it on and they wont get sunburned any more

  14. yes its fine but doesnt your  fly spray and coat conditioner have  sun screen in it already

  15. um ya that would work perfectly where i live my horse doesnt need sunscreen because it is so wet

  16. Go to the webite VKR Pets....They have an FDA approved sunscreen for dogs and for horses.....It is called Epi-Pet and is specially formulated for them....Human sunscreen is not formulated  for or compatible with skin of pets........
