  1. I don't thank so because the 8MM / 06 has ben rechambered

from the 8mm Mausers to fit the 30-06 case witch is 63mm long.or 62.76mm and the  8x57 mauser is 56.90mm long or 57 mm long

Riflemen who have fallen heir to 8mm military Mausers, who wanted more power, have often had them rechambered to 30-06 case necked up to 8mm. I hop this helps

  2. Nope. Only use the ammo it was made for. I know some guns can use 2 calibers. A .357 magnum is a more notable example but guns manual tells you it can take .38 special. But if your ok with running the risk of your receiver exploding go ahead.

  3. Q:  does anyone know if the 8mm-06 is interchangeable with an 8mm mauser?

A:  No.  The 8mm-06 is too long.  The 8mm is really based on the 7x57mm round necked up to 8mm.  The 8mm-06 is based on a .30-06 Springfield necked up to 8mm (approx. .32 caliber).  The difference in length is:  57mm for the 8mm and 63mm for the .30-06.  So you see, the 8mm-06 is too long.

  4. No, in a word.  The 8mm/06 has a rimless case and an 8mm Mauser is a rimmed case.  they are not the same animal

  5. J.D. nailed it.

People brought back 8mm mausers from World War One and World War two.  They wanted to shoot em and hunt with em, but there wasn't a ready supply of 8x57 ammo.  So the guys would bring the gun to a gunsmith and have him re-chamber it for 8mm-06, and they'd open up the neck of 30-06 ammo and put in .32 caliber bullets (the 32 special and the 32-20 and a few other 32s were more common back then) and were set for deer season.

  6. Absolutely NO.

The 8mm-06 was a wildcat developed for use in 8mm war trophies, using the redilly availble .30-06 brass. It required opening up the chamber, so the two are not interchangable at all.

I'm curious, do you have a gun chambered in 8-06?
