If I'm not mistaken, those were analog.  It's been a long time since we had our huge one (too many Hurricanes), but chances are the answer is yes it will be around, no it will not work.

2009 is all about off-the-air analog transmission.

It has nothing to do with satellite transmission. Satellite companies provide their own set-top boxes and can do whatever they want anytime they want.
