  1. Can,t better that answer.but there was a GB trained Cigar born 7 years before the legendary one.

His sire was non other than the horse that won the 1981 Derby by 10 lenghths(a record to this day) Sherger.

Sorry to say that particular Cigar didn,t win any of his 8 races, but he,s

still alive today 25 years old.

  2. Sandra is correct in her answer, but I do want to mention one thing- the reason Cigar is at the Kentucky Horse Park and not standing on a farm somewhere is because he turned out to be sterile when they attempted to use him at stud. Rather than geld him and use him as a riding horse, his owners decided to donate him to the park for their exhibit. They took a pretty substantial financial loss when he turned out to be sterile- and I have a strange feeling that Big Brown's owners are going to have the same thing happen to them when that horse enters stud this fall. Who knows what effect the steroids he's been getting all this time is going to have on his fertility? It won't be a good one, you can bet on that.

  3. Cigar lives at the Kentucky Horse Park's Hall of Champions in Lexington.  He was born April, 18,1990.  Making him 18 years old. He's a Hall of Fame Race Horse.  Cigar is one of the all time money earner among North American thoroughbreds, close to $10 Million in career earnings.  He retired to stud end of 1996 racing season were ceremonies were held at Madison Square Garden.  There's a full size bronze statue of cigar at Florida's Gulfstream Park.

Thanks for that question it was fun.
