My family cannot remember to turn out the light. I find it on 10 times a day. I just know that the light stays on a lot while I am gone to work.

  1. There are motion detector switches that replace the standard switch at the wall.  You can get them at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

  2. Lowe's and home depot sell a motion switch.  It comes on when it detects motion and can be set to stay on a predetermined amount of time.  They are available in different colors and start at about $15.  In a bathroom, it should be a single pole (just have one switch) be sure you know before you go.  One note, i bought one hoping to use with fluorescent, didn't work well, read the package.  Hope this helps.

  3. Motion detector switches like you can find at many public restrooms, such as : http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/14-5...

(also available in beige).  It replaces your normal light switch.  It might also keep someone from taking that 1/2 hour bath while people are waiting.

  4. Sure a motion detector could be used, but how about a timer switch, 10 minutes or 60 minutes depends on what you buy, easy to install and cheaper. Turn it on and it turns itself off after the set time. It need not be set for the maximum time when used.

  5. My Dad used to charge us a quarter(25cents)(in the 70's) each time he found the lights left on.We hated it as we didn't get much money doing our chores to begin with.Let the family see how the money goes out towards paying the monthly/weekly bills and whats left over.I learned a lot about running a household/bills by being part of it like this.

Also you should put a nightlight in there, and a lower wattage bulb.

    Good luck
