Does anyone know if there is any cell phone service in the bahamas?

I have verizon and I am going on the disney cruise an dI was wondering if there is any cell phone service on the boat or in the bahamas

Yes, there is cell phone service - but it is very very expensive.  If you plan making calls - it is probably cheaper to use the phone on the ship (i know it's expensive too - but I think it's a little cheaper).  You best bet though (if you are planning on making many calls) is to get an international pre-paid SIM card to use in your phone while you are out of the country.  Much cheaper and you can get them on-line.  Of course this will only work if your phone is 'unlocked'.  If it isn't then you can pick up an unlocked GSM phone and pick up an International SIM card for it.  Again, if you aren't making a lot of phone calls not worth it.  But at over $5.00 a minute on regular cell phones it may very well be your best bet.  Plus you'll be set for any other international travel you'll be doing.

Check with your carrier, they probably have an International roaming feature you can buy for a month, which will reduce your rates while there. I was there in Feb of this year, have AT&T and it cost $5.95 for a month and greatly reduced the associated fees while using he phone there. Have fun, it's a beautiful place.
