Does anyone know if this is a scam?

I am selling a car and received an offer for more than what I am asking. The potential buyer is on business in Italy and wants to send me a thousand dollars to hold the car for one month until he can return. Also I looked up the E-mail address and found it was generated on 6/30/2008.

  1. Anyone who wants to pay you more than you are asking is a scam.

I am willing to bet you that if you agree he will send your a cheque

for 5000. and then ask you to send him your cheque for 4000. by the time you have found out that his cheque is no good he will have cashed your cheque. This is a scam and don't do it!!

  2. Matthew --- how long have you been using the internet and email? Everybody knows it's a scam whenever someone sends you more money than you ask for, is "out of the country" or asks you to cash a check and send them the difference.

I'm sure you know this too. But you're so anxious to sell your car that you're hoping that we'll tell you that you are the one in a billion who actually got a legit offer from someone out of the country. Sorry. Go with your gut instinct. It's a scam.

  3. Are you kidding me??

  4. I would physically ask to speak with someone or else i wouldn't hold the car, sounds like a scam to me.

  5. This is about 99% chance it is a scam. The proof will come if he offers to send you a cashier's check (counterfeit) for more than you are asking for the car. Here's an article that describes how the scam works:

    .

  6. Lol - scam.

    Say no.

  7. There is no free lunch.   and there is no need for anyone in italy to buy a car in the U.S. till he /she gets to the united states.

    It's a scam.

  8. Based on the info you have given. I don't see how it could be a scam. Your not giving anything other than a possible contract or whatever you two decide, to hold the car for one month. Can you wait that long is the question. If anyone else shows interest before the deal is done. Just take their name, by deal being done. I mean you get your thousand to hold it. If the month ends and they don't show your still ahead a thousand bucks.

  9. This is indeed a scam!  And don't be talked into something illegal by misinformed people.  Even though you could probably do something to protect yourself from losing any money, the law will still hold you responsible for any money lost by this scam of other people. Don't do it!
