Does anyone know if you can get a scholarship with a 3.0 out of 4.0gpa?

I am looking for full or partial scholarships for my son. He has a gpa of 3.0 out of 4.0. I would like him to go to a university in either the U.K, Canada or the U.S but I don't have all the money to send him so I was hoping if I could have found a way of subsidizing it I would be able to send him. He wants to do a masters in Business Administration. Thanks in advance

  1. Have you tried fastweb.com? Its a free search for scholarships that doesnt just look at GPA but social, economic, and personal background and any associations the student belongs to (or their parents).

Whatever you do dont pay for a scholarship service. Its a rip-off and a scam. All that info is for free but you gotta look for it.

  2. Yes, it's possible, but not easy.  Consider if you were on the selection committee, and you had 500 applicants, and 100 had 4.0 GPA, and you can offer only 3 scholarships.  Would you select down the ladder a student with one of the lowest GPA's??

Is that  fair to others with better GPA?

My suggestion is that you emphasize on your application other considerations, that may push your son to the top, especially if he has any diabilities, or obstacles in life to overcome.

If he's had to support your family, by working, for example, along with going to school.  Has he had business experience, started his own business or managed a store?  This could be used to overlook the low  GPA.

There are also public grants that can be used for low-income applicants (in the USA).  But, don't know if they are given to foreign applicants or non-residents of the USA.  You'll have to talk to a good school counselor for working out details of what grants your son could apply for.

And, don't forget to check with your church or employer.  These sometimes offer scholarships for members and their children.  In this case your being a part of that group, trumps the low GPA, unless there are dozens of applicants, competing only for a couple awards.

A 3.5 GPA would have made the scholarship search so much easier.
