Does anyone know if you can put sand stone blocks in cichlid tank? cheers

Sandstone is fine.  As long as it isn't constantly grinding against other hard objects, which would cause it to become dusty, it is great.  Unlike limestone, coral, shells, and other calcium carbonate based materials, sandstone is inert and will not leech anything into the water.  However, be cautious of where you find it-- the last thing you want is sandstone that has been exposed to pesticides and herbicides.
