Does anyone know if your amended refund will be mailed to you or if you will get it direct deposited.?

I have stimulus being held till amendment is finished being processed. It has been over eight weeks and the amendment papers are also money that I am getting back. What should I do and will that be a check also mailed to me. I don't know why it is taking so long.

Amendments filed during or right after the tax season always take a long time so don't worry.  The IRS focuses on getting everybody's original returns processed before they worry about amendments and prior year returns and such.

Refunds from amended returns are always paper checks and never direct deposits.  That is another reason why they are inherently slower.

They process amendments slowly.  And if you filed an amendment before or just after April 15, it sits on the bottom of the pile while they finish processing regular returns.  You'll most likely be getting a check, not direct deposit.

In the old days it was pretty easy to telephone the IRS but today you could be on the phone for ever and still not get through to a real person. If the IRS has your bank account number they will use it for a direct deposit if not than you'll get your check by mail. If you live where there is an IRS office pop in on them and when you get an agent they can tell you everything ,if something  is wrong they can get you on the right track. If that is not possible you'll have to do the phone thing.

Amended returns take a long time.  Your rebate check is based upon your original filing.

It is going to take a while.  Be patient.

If you are due a refund from your amendment, a check will be mailed to you, it won't be direct deposited.

Amendments take 8-12 weeks or more to process, so it's no surprise you don't have it yet.  It would be unusual for it to be done in 8 weeks.
