Does anyone know know to record your voice on cassette tape?

hey everyone, i have this radio that can play cd, tape, and regular radio. i wanted to record my voice on a tape like they used to do back in the days but i don't know how that works ? can someone help me please cause i'm an inspiring singer i want to record a song ( my voice) thank you ..

Make sure there's a 'mic' somewhere on the unit first, otherwise, you're wasting your time. If the player/recorder has a record button, you either press the play & record button at the same time, or just the record button (depending on the configuration) and you just talk. Make sure the selector button is on "tape" if there is one, otherwise it will just record the radio, not your voice.

Just to clarify what Mike and Tony have both pointed out - most portable cassette recorders eventually had microphones built-in. It may not be readily apparent where it is, but Tony is right that, if there is a small input jack for use with a separate microphone, that would be your best bet (technically it's a  mini-plug/jack).

If it is a large machine that was part of a stereo system, it will undoubtedly have an input jack for a mic. This will be a larger input called either an RCA plug/jack or a1/4" standard stereo "unimatch."

Check online or at Radio Shack for microphones - bring the cassette recorder with you if you go to RS.

When recording, you may have to push "record" slightly before "play." That will release the safety that prevents inadvertant recording.

Try to going into a small room that doesn't sound hollow (or "bounce" when you snap your fingers). A walk-in closet would be good, because the hanging clothes will absorb any echo or ambient noise. Good luck!

Oh wow.....I'm feeling old right now being that today's young generation probably never fiddled around with a tape recorder!  Darn those mp3's! lol :)

Your cassette player has to have a mic input on there...it could be something like a small circle, though for your case, you may want to get an actual microphone to plug into your recorder.  Then just hit play and record simultaneously!
