Question:

Does anyone know of a PSE&G program where they look over your house for energy leaks and help pay to fix them?

I have heard that in Northern New Jersey there is a program. The one that I am speaking of is specific to PSE&G. It is not something that you contact there main numbers for. You have to call a seperate number at a seperate address for but I do not know it. (Obviously)

They come into your house and evaluate it for leaks such as in old doors, old windows, appliances that are using way too much energy.

I heard one person tell me her friend did this and they told her to replace her fridge and freezer. She picked out the one to get and they paid for it!

So does anyone have the phone # to this and or a name that the program is called?

  1. There are a couple of programs that fit your description.  The first and easiest to set up is a simple energy audit from your local utility provider.  Call their main number and speak with someone about setting up an energy audit.  The people at their main number might not be the ones to set this up, but they will know who to transfer you to.

The second one, which is probably the one your friend used if they paid for her new fridge, is LIEAP (Low Income Energy Assistance Program).  You'll have to meet income requirements, but if you're eligible, then they will inspect your home and help you make improvements that will make your home more energy efficient.

LIEAP benefits are administered by individual states, so I'd recommend searching the web for "LIEAP" and your state to find out how you can apply for benefits.
