  1. Try this http://www.2020site.org/cabin/

    also http://www.netwrite-publish.com/diy/log-...

    which indicates some books.

The thing about building things is that it is not cheap. I usually tell punters (ahem, clients) that if they want to save money they should open a bank account. nevertheless I think you should be able to get some principles from these books/sites and adapt them to suit your circumstances. With this kind of building, remember, pioneers made it up as they went along so there is no 'right 'way to do it (plenty of wrong ones, mind).

  2. I would highly recommend Charles Mcraven's "The Classic Hewn Log House. This is the bible for log cabin wisdom and experience. I have built my own with the help of this book and a few phone calls to Charles. You can also find a lot of useful cabin building techniques on my website www.log-cabin-adventures.com. I created it just for people like yourself who want to undertake this adventure but realize there are a lot of useless books out there. I try to help you with the details and help you avoid things that will sting you in the end.

  3. Here's all the books they have on Amazon.com.

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url...

They start about 10 dollars and go up. There are ones that talk about building a very low cost log cabin, as low as 3,000 dollars!

    Good luck!
