Does anyone know of a bug on iPhone where an SMS notification sounds but no message shows up?

I texted someone today. Then, I pulled out my phone and swiped my finger on the screen to unlock it. At the exact same time, it sounded an SMS reply. But, it didn't give me the usual on-screen notification of a text message, nor did it show up in my SMS conversation with the guy I texted. WTF? Has this happened to anybody else? Is there any way to track down the message?

are you sure it wasn't the email notification noise? sometimes i used to always get confused between the sound it makes when i get an email with the one for a text
