  1. If you eyes are dry, then yes you will notice that more at night as some residue will get stuck on your contacts and diffuse light. Your contact might also get stuck in the wrong position which would also blur your whole image.

If you know your eyes are not dry, then here are some things that I tried and worked for me:

    a) try cleaning your contacts thoroughly with contact solution or even special soapy solution for contacts.

    b) Most likely cause:

How old are your contacts?  After a while, minerals can deposit into the contact lenses and reduce your vision. This is mostly noticeable at night.

Minerals would also reduce the amount of oxygen your eyes get, which is very bad for your cornea and can lead to permanent vision degradation.

You should see your optician if that bothers you too much, as he will be able to check your contacts and your eyes to make sure there is no medical conditions that causes that.

Final advice:  in my case, I stopped wearing contacts during night driving for that exact reason.  I keep my glasses and contact cases close by on long road trips so when I stop for dinner, I do a swap to my glasses.  However, make sure you get your glasses updated with your latest prescription.

I find that really a lot easier at night, as the eyes are more stressed with the darkness (so your eyes try to be sensitive and open-up the iris) and the incoming car headlights into your eyes (which forces your eyes to close down).

    Conclusion:

    1.  Get your contact and eyes checked-up by your optician

    2.  Wear your glasses when driving at night.
