I don't have much money and tried getting my children in FLVA (Florida Virtural Acadamy) They did not get approved to accept new children this year. I want to homeschool for several reasons. I have homeschooled in the past but paid for the programs. Now money is tight. I want a good program. I am in Florida. Please help!!

  1. Here's a link to the laws in Florida.

It looks like you have a lot of options. You can homeschool without signing up with a charter school. There are many great free resources on the web and many online forums for support from other parents. I have a bunch of helpful links on my blog. .

  2. Nothing is free, especially an education worth obtaining. You get what you pay for.

You could always send your children to public schools that your taxes already fund. Or make other financial sacrifices.

  3. Hi, Christa.

You do not need to buy a program for your kids.  They can be home schooled quite well using library and Internet resources.

We pay approximately $70.00 per year for academics (Math U See) and the rest we put together ourselves.

You can find much, much more by googling "Homeschool for free," or "free (name your subject) curriculum."

    All the best.

  4. there are 2 other schools in Florida that are free online charters. Connections Acedemy is free currently for children k-8. Then later there is Florida Virtual Schools

  5. If you have a library card, you have a wealth of resources.  What they don't have on the shelves, they can generally find at another library.  I'm sure your child will enjoy the wide selection of books.  Yes, they have all subjects... so you're covered.

  6. Check out Old Fashioned Education. It's actually free! From K-12. If you wanted to print stuff off, you can, so that's a minor cost, but aside from that, FREE. Not kidding. My daughter is going to be using part of it this year, and most of it the next. :)

Ambleside Online is another great curriculum source, but SOME of their stuff you would have to look for "off-line," but the books they recommend are reasonable in price when you can find them. A lot of their curriculum sources are free, though.

Also, there is a Yahoo group called 3RHomeschooling that is about Old Fashioned Education (and other classical education sources), and they LOVE sharing their free finds from the internet!

Check out my blog if you want. I have a listing of free stuff I have found as well. :) It's not at all a debate blog, but you are welcome to join in the discussions peacefully, if you would like! :)
