Do a search on the web, everyone has a cousin that they haven't seen in years who has done some of the research already. in a search engine type in

(your last name)+genealogy

you can also try

(your last name)+family

If you have any idea about where your ancestors (recent) lived, you can do research yourself. You can try contacting the libraries in the areas where they were and they might be able to help get you started. Often the library or the local historical society will have people who do work in genealogy.
