Does anyone know of a good North American volunteer opportunity for three weeks in August?

I'm a 3rd-year university student (graduate in 1 year!) on summer holiday, and, despite my best efforts, it seems quite likely that I might actually go the whole summer without finding a job. So, rather than having this whole summer be a waste, I'm thinking of taking a course in July, and volunteering somewhere in August. I have volunteered abroad before, and while I would love to do that again, I need to go somewhere closer (due to financial concerns), but I also want to go somewhere interesting.

Basically, I'm looking for somewhere on the Eastern half of North America (I live in Montreal, QC), which could use a volunteer for three weeks (becuase that's all I'd have), and which wouldn't cost me a lot of money (ideally, accomodation would be provided/subsidised). I would also prefer to go somewhere more interesting: for example, New Orleans instead of New York, or Kansas instead of Michigan, or Nunavut instead of Ontario. Thanks for your help!
