Does anyone know of a good camcorder for home and vacation videos for a reasonable price?

JVC is a good brand, they sell very small but good quality ones. I haven't purchased one myself, but I'm fairly sure they come at a reasonable price. You can get them at walmart, but they are generally in better shape and last longer if you purchase them at a store like circuit city or best buy, target works too. They should be uner 300 dollars. That may seem like a lot, but keep in mind there's much more expensive ones out there.

Have a look at entry level MiniDV camcorders from Sony, Canon, JVC and Panasonic.  Look for something that feels right in your hand and the controls are intuitive.  Don't get hung up on how much optical zoom it's got or how many megapixels the stills are.  Also, don't be seduced by the "ease and simplicity" of DVD based camcorders - they're c**p!
