I live off of East Sunrise, and I just got my letter for childcare assistance. I want to find a good center close to home since I also work close. It also would have to take assistance from the state. Does anyone know of any or have any experiences about any- good or bad, so I know. Thanks

  1. Try http://gocitykids.parentsconnect.com/bro... I guess it has some ratings from parents that have used their services.

  2. Go to www.naccrra.org. This is the National Association for Child Care Resource and Referral. You can search for child care in your area and/or find out where your local child care resource and referral agency (CCR&R) is. These agencies help parents find childcare and educate parents about what to look for in quality care, etc. I used to work for a CCR&R in Ohio, the service was free to parents - we could search for care close to home/work; whatever the parent needed. It's really a helpful service and one that many people don't know about.

  3. Call your social service agency, the same place you applied for assistance.  They should be able to give you some suggestions or refer you to a childcare information agency.  Also check with your local elementary school and churches.  Make a list of the programs they all tell you about, then contact those programs individually.  Ask if they can accept state subsidized clients, then visit them.  Observe for cleanliness and staff/child interaction.  Look to see if the children appear happy and seem to be receiving enough attention from the staff.  Make sure the staff/child ratio is within the legal limits for your state (your information agency or one of the programs should be able to give you this information).  Ask what kind of routine the children follow.  There should be both structured group activities, and free-choice time when the children may choose from safe, constructive activities.  There should also be some time allotted each day for outdoor play.  Ask what rules your child will be expected to follow and what their discipline policy is.  Please be picky!  You can make this an excellent experience for your child by choosing well, and if your child is happy and well cared for, you will be much more comfortable!
