Does anyone know of a good free site for searching family members?

i have just started a family tree and looked at various sites, they are all free till you want some information and then the pound signs appear

www.familysearch.com - This is the Church of Latter day Saint site and is very extensive on births and marriages and so-so on deaths, but hey, it's free.

Type in 'ancestry' on google you have to sign up but its completely free:D

I've found the same.

The answerer who recommended the latterday saints website is right ... their members search for ancestors to posthumously baptise.

You might find some info here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/censu... but it eventually links to Ancestry.co.uk ... and a fee!

Also, if you know the military regiment of any male ancestors, try looking at the regimental website, or you could start here: http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/grandad...
