Does anyone know of a good free site for searching family members?

i have just started a family tree and looked at various sites, they are all free till you want some information and then the pound signs appear

  1. Genes Reunited, you only have to pay if you want to contact someone.


  2. www.familysearch.com - This is the Church of Latter day Saint site and is very extensive on births and marriages and so-so on deaths, but hey, it's free.


  3. Type in 'ancestry' on google you have to sign up but its completely free:D

  4. I've found the same.

    The answerer who recommended the latterday saints website is right ... their members search for ancestors to posthumously baptise.

    You might find some info here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/censu... but it eventually links to Ancestry.co.uk ... and a fee!

    Also, if you know the military regiment of any male ancestors, try looking at the regimental website, or you could start here: http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/grandad...
