I've been looking for a nice sewing box with organized storage. I was also hoping to find one under $40. i have been looking around for one but I don't like the boxes with crazy print patterns. If you could attach websites that would be great.

  1. Go to your local Hardware store and check out  all of the Storage unites there. I have found a lot of Neat Items and usually much cheaper too ;)))

  2. I use a couple different kinds in my sewing room.  One is a plastic dresser type thing with three drawers in it that I got at WalMart.  I noticed yeaterday they have them there for $15 each.  the drawers are kind of see through and the frame is colored or white.

the other thing I use are the Sterilite shoe boxes and seater boxes on shelves.  I have all of the accessories to each of my machines in a separate shoe box and labeled the end.  I have elastic in one and zippers in one and cuttin supplies in one, etc.  The sweater size are great for storing upcoming projects with the pattern, thread and buttons all together for the next project.

I have cutting mats hung on a nail behind the door and beside them are the clear hard acrylic staright edges.  I only buy the ones that have a hole predrilled in the end.  Against the wall I have a fold up cutting table that I got at Joanns on sale for abotu $50 i think around Thanskgiving for the best deal.  the leaves drop down so it is very easy to store.  I also have an extra large cutting mat that came in a box that is the same size as the cutting table when opened up.  I store this behind the machines flat up against the wall.

You see, some of your best ideas or things that work best for you may not necesarily be sold at the fabric store.  You can find some great items at WalMart and at your local hardware or drug store.  I have a friend who has a cutting table on a pully system in her guest room.  When it is not in use or when guests are coming, she just raises it up to the ceiling and the complete mess is gone and company never knows.  She painted the underside of the plywood to match her ceiling.  Great idea for small spaces or shared spaces.

  3. Don't limit yourself to sewing boxes.  I don't like the ones that are out on the market either, so I got an art organizer instead  (makeup organizer would work too).  It has lots of little compartments to organize the little things and you can decorate it any way you like.

Here is one that's nice, but it looks like it would be on the small side.
