Not sure if many know this but Sid Vicious was actually recommended to be the lead singer (not Johnny Rotten) of the s*x Pistols when Matlock quit the group. And although he ended up being the bassist, he did sing a few songs.

Geddy Lee is one of the most powerful vocalists in rock music, while being a pioneer for bass players, and is also a multi-instrumentalist, usually alternating between bass and synthesizers.

Look at the albums Fly By Night and A Farewell to Kings, particularly Anthem and Xanadu. Also, The Necromancer is an amazing song.

But I would be remiss to leave out the Beatles. Paul McCartney is seen as an early cutting edge bassist, taking the bass from being a rhythm instrument to having a position of its own on the forefront of a band, while also being the most well-known bass/baritone in music.

It's actually a really common thing. Geddy Lee, of the Canadian prog legends, Rush is not only among the greatest bassists of all time but has one of the most distinctive voices of any vocalist. Paul McCartney was the bassist and shared lead vocals in the Beatles, while Jack Bruce was Cream's lead singer on most songs, as well as their bassist. Roger Waters, aside from penning much of Pink Floyd's material was their bassist and one of their chief singers. Also Les Claypoole of Primus is known as both one of the most unique bassist and most unique singers in all of rock. Sting of the Police handled the 4 string and vocals as well.
