Does anyone know of a large bug shaped sort of like an ant. The two segments on back are bright bright red. ?

This bug is about 1.5 inches long. This summer is the first sighting. It is rather creepy but pretty as well.

I live in northern Florida and have seen huge ants with bright red heads and tails, middle segment is black.  I just figured it's an ant newly invading our area.  Never saw any such creature before this year.  I haven't bothered to ask anyone how to get rid of them, since I've only seen 3 or 4 and don't have any idea where they live.

Sounds like a Velvet wasp to me...no wings, looks like an ant, but bigger, very fast, don't mess with these critters, they have a mean sting! Use to have them all around where I once lived as a kid. I was smart enough not to touch them. Ant and Wasp spray will kill them, you do not want these where people are, trust me! Goldwing
