Does anyone know of a legitimate way to make some extra income from home?

I am a stay-at-home mommy to 4 little ones. I'm also attending college online. My husband works full time and we just feel it's necessary for me to be at home right now. But I'm really needing to make some extra income. I sell a few things on ebay, but it's just not very profitable. Does anyone know of something truly legitimate that I can do from home. I am really good on the computer and internet. I am NOT wanting any of that same old scam stuff that you see now. I want something that will help me make an extra $500-1000 a month. I am a great typist and love working on the computer. Any input will be GREATLY appreciated!!! :) Thanks!!

I know you're probably looking for more of a "business" related response, but have you ever thought about maybe some kind of crafting? I know that might sound silly, but I'm in the same boat as you with my home situation, and I was surprised to find as much of a market out there for homemade things as there is. For example, if you can sew...TONS of people are looking for custom made boppy covers, diaper bags, personalized blankets, decorative  letters and signs with the kids' names on them....etc. etc. If you have the talent for that, you can make a great profit off of them! Just a thought :)

I did Mary Kay and it worked for me through college. I also went to a Princess House party the other day and I may get into that. Neither is a "get rich quick" scheme. After all, it is *working* from home. But, you do get to set your own schedule, etc....Also try Avon.  Check out their websites to find a consultant to sign you up!

I have tried almost every work at home job there is out there.  I got tired of spending money to make money. I have created a list to share with everyone where they can make a little bit of money, of course when you sign up I get paid (all FREE).  I have no hidden agenda; I am just trying to get extra income like you.  

If you’re like me who just wants to type, not talk to people, or recruit people than this might be for you. No, I am not rich but I do have extra income coming in.  At least I am making money without leaving my house or my family.  

Data entry online is a joke.  You either pay a company to do surveys (which are obtainable for free), SPAM the c**p out of people, or my ultimate favorite is when you advertise to sell what you just bought to another sucker and they pay you.  I made a killing doing that UNTIL the company disappears or that person quits which happens to be your connection to duplicating the system.  I am not saying not to do this, that’s totally up to you.  Now you can look at my list as data entry because you do type.

If you are looking to get rich, this is not for you.  If you truly want to make extra income with no attachments, than this might be it for you.  You won’t know until you have done it all and I believe I have.

I make my extra income whenever I want to do it, NOT whenever I need to make a quota.  BUT if you don’t do anything you get nothing.  This is not a get rich opportunity or a business.  It’s just making extra income and I guess you can turn it into a business.  It does require work, patients, and some of your time.  It can become tedious at times but tell me when something in LIFE has ever been easy.

You are probably receiving a lot of information about possible work from home jobs. I have been in your shoes and have spent many hours online researching and trying to find the right one.  The one thing that I ended up figuring out is that there are no true work from home "jobs."  In a work from home job you usually start out working for a company and then for whatever reason, sometimes, the company will let you take your job home; thus work from home job.  

However, there are many work from home “opportunities.”  These opportunities provide you with the vehicle to work from home and build your own business.  The difficult or frustrating part about finding the right opportunity is that there are many offers that are not legitimate, but scams.  Theses scams make it difficult for the companies that truly offer a legitimate opportunity to work from home.  Usually, work from home opportunities have a small investment to start your own business.  These are okay as long as they are around $100, anything much more than that and I would stay away.  Also if they require a monthly overhead to run the business it should include things like your websites, training, back office system, and support.  Remember any business that you start and want to continue (whether it’s retail, restaurant, or home-based) will always have start up costs and monthly expenses.

I am a stay at home mother of 2 (ages 4 and 2).  My husband works 6 days a week and I do not have much help in the area of child care for my children.  On my journey to finding the right work from home opportunity I tried everything from selling vitamins, lotions and many other product based companies.  I also looked into processing information online.  What I realized with all these companies is that I usually put more money back into my business and ended up with lots of product I really did not need.  I also was very skeptical of some of those online work from home websites that really never got to the point of what I would be doing to earn income.

I know this isnt an answer to your question, and I apologize. Love these scammers who start in with the surveys and c**p. Word of advice, beware of all the jerks wanting you to help sell melaleuca, they are EVERYWHERE.

Anyway, just wanted to say, if you do find something legitimate out there, by all means let me know. I too am a stay at home mom and only want to find something to help out with bills.

I second direct selling opportunities.  My advice though is to make sure that 1) start-up cost is fairly reasonable, 2) your not required to purchase grotesque amounts of inventory to stay in business 3) monthly minimum sales requirements are also reasonable- some have quotas that are very  hard to meet

The other option is to become a virtual assistant- many small businesses are often looking for "temp" type assistants for short-term projects, if you have your own computer and fax, that would be an easy avenue to pursue as well.  For example, real estate agents might need help making flyers, etc. to market their properties but can't pay full-time.  I'm sure an internet search will lead you to other ideas on this....
