  1. Well think about it: A guy who skates gets to be around girls wearing short skirts and spandex all day. Plus the guy to girl ratio (especially at my rink) is like 200:1. So the guys are pretty lucky.

Alot of it stems from skating being primarily stereotyped as a "girls sport". Plus people assume that what a guy might have to wear to skate (tight clothing, spandex even) is somehow g*y, even though its for freedom of movement and aerodynamics. Alot of guys that might like it wont figure skate because they dont want to be called g*y, which is ridiculous.

Evan lysacek is an extremely popular guy skater, you can find TONS of info on him. And we know hes not g*y, because hes had a girlfriend (check out http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,...

Also many pairs skater have wives or are dating/married to their partner, so look up some popular winners of recent competitions, (olympics, nationals, worlds etc) and see if they are g*y or not.

If you need anything elso or more info or something, just email me.

  2. my god son seems to be straight(just a kid) and he is a figure skater.  his mom enrolled him at a young age.  but she does dress him like a girl.  she keeps his hair long and stuff.  he will be competing in a skating dress as a girl. this is the one, http://www.discountskatewear.com/item.as...

but other than that he is very boyish, his mom is the one who wanted a girl.

  3. Chazz Michael Michaels

    ha! just kidding..

Kurt Browning, he met that american actress on some reality show and they had a kid together I believe.

  4. Evan Lysacek. He's going out with another skater, Tanith Belbin. She is an ice dancer with Ben Agosto.

  5. Yes I do... I know lots.. I think you should o ur report on Jeremy Abbott. He has a gf and hes a pro figure skater

  6. Scott Hamilton, the best male skater ever!   :)

Not all male figure skaters are g*y.  Many if not most are married, have children, have been divorced and remarried.  It's sad that people have kept that stereotype going.  It keeps guys away from the sport because even if they're interested, they don't want to get that label.  And if they are g*y, so what!

The sport takes a lot of strength, determination and dedication, but people who know very little about it have a hard time even considering it a sport.  In comparison with other sports, skating has such a tiny percentage of skaters who make it to professional or elite levels of the sport.  For example, one is probably more likely to make it into the NFL than be an Olympic skater.  Society has created such small perameters that any male with a little bit of creativity or interest in dance, etc. is looked down upon.  Skating falls under that "umbrella" because of it's presentation, grace and pagentry.  Why does society exault the professional football player when a figure skater trains just as hard (all year round), has to be perfect every time he performs, doesn't get paid nearly what the football player does, gets hurt as often as the football player (and continues to train/perform with injuries), but the figure skater is laughed at?  Why...because he's not only got to bring his "A game" everytime, but he's got to look good doing it and make it all go along with music?

  7. I have tons of coaches at my rink who are straight - not really names you would know.  Charlie Tickner comes to mind because he's at my rink.  Seriously, I don't know why people hold onto this stereotype.  Athletes are athletes; sexuality has nothing to do with dedication, strength, and talent.

  8. Actually there are a lot more straight skaters these days than g*y ones especially in pairs and ice dance competitions.  Actually, most g*y skaters come from the US teams.  If you pay close attentions, the male skaters from other countries are actually dating girls.  There are g*y skaters from other countries of course but compared to the US they have very little.  Take Johnny q***r who keeps denying it.  I'd like to see him kiss a girl in front of the camera with tongue, and tell me his straight...hahaha.  It ain't gonna happen...it's like waiting for pigs to fly.

  9. Loyd Issler - canadian pair skater is really tough and Kurt Browning is married.

  10. look for guys who do ballet... coz guys who take ballet are less likey to be g*y then figure skaters.

  11. The majority of them aren't g*y, but people still stereotype them as that if they figure skate they must be g*y. Scott Hamilton, Evan Lysacek, Kurt Browning, Ben Agusto, Ryan Bradley, and many more. I also know all of the male figure skaters aren't g*y at my rink (they all have girlfriends). I think the few of them that are or may be g*y are the ones that are focused on so the stereotype that all male figure skaters are g*y is one that has come along and has never been lost, but I really think that the public needs to realize that just because you are male and figure skate it doesn't mean you are g*y.
