Question:

Does anyone know of a place (globally) where I can help the needy?

I would love to help people in the very places where they need it the most but after looking into it I have discovered that to do this you have to pay them! The organisations that set things up ask for such a large amount of money that I calculate that I could stay in a 5* hotel in the named countries for the duration and have plenty of spending money.

This to me is nothing less than corruption! Fat cats getting rich at the top of the tree.

I will put my heart and soul into a good cause in a way that would become my life style hence I would not be earning any money and could not sustain a life style helping people if I was expected to pay.

So can anyone tell me of such an organisation where perhaps in exchange for the help they house you and feed you?

  1. Try these:

    www.rippleafrica.org

    www.risingfountains.org

  2. Have you checked with the Red Cross?

  3. i looked for the same thing but there's no where i wanted to look after kids in india but all wanted 100s pounds its all scamming these days money first peaple last......

  4. You never wandered around London?  Birmingam?  Leeds?  There are people in need on your doorstep.  You don't need to travel far really.

Try this link.  Just click on 'change city' for further options.

    http://nottingham.gumtree.com/nottingham...

    .

  5. Yes - it DOES make you wonder exactly WHAT some of these so-called charities DO with all the money they get - and why they need to charge you for participating in their 'charitable' activities.

That's why so many people have given up donating to charity and now work on the assumption that as 'charity begins at home' they tend to do a bit of volunteer work in the local neighbourhood - like painting a fence or doing a bit of shopping for an elderly or infirm neighbour - and it doesn't cost a penny!

  6. I agree, you are not ready for this work as you have no notion of how charities work. If you are accepted to work on a project overseas, you will have to be trained and supervised by staff working on the project who should, after all, be actually helping the beneficiaries rather than looking after you. Employing these staff costs money which is why you are asked to contribute.

You are also expecting the charity to house and feed you - presumably out of funds which have been raised to help 'the needy'. I don't think there would be many happy donors if they thought their charity cash was going to support you!

Volunteer in an organisation near you where you can learn about how the voluntary sector works and where you can learn some useful skills.

  7. The charities that charge money are meeting the expenses associated with providing a sanitized, and safe, helping experience. There is nothing stopping you from taking a truckload of food and clean water to the flood in Bihar and setting up a kitchen. Well, practical difficulties, but you can probably work through them. When people see you're trying to help they'll smooth things out for you.

I'm making a lot of assumptions here: That you are still close to India, that you have some money, and are able to perform simple aid work. If those things are not true, proceed accordingly.

How about some more information about where you are, your skills, etc. Maybe we could find a slot for you, but more exact information is needed.

  8. I cant give specifics but a suggestion would be to go to the hunger site dot com and check out some info there

  9. Are you sure that you are ready to help?

Coz if you need something like being housed and being fed in return for your charity, then i will say in few words that you are out for Business...don get me wrong.

Take an example in Africa, are you sure you want to be housed and be fed by people who have no food or shelter???? how will that be????

unless you are planning to organise a project by yourself  whereby the channels of money is not just you....otherwise for a good charity, you gotta feed others and feed yourself.

If they are asking too much money, then just make a small donation....to the organisation that are asking for something small. or do shopping and go to a children's home and give them the gifts yourself instead of money( in case you don't trust the fat cats)
