  1. I agree with John although a critical illness or a cancer policy will not help at this point, and your husband would not qualify for the cancer policy, but you could get both. Google the The American Cancer Society or look in the yellow pages, they are the ones who will be able to provide you with all the resources they have and they will know what is available to you. I'm so sorry.

  2. Sorry to hear about your position.

One thing you can try is a medical claim review and settlement organization. If you visit MyMedicalcontrol.com they will try and negotiate a lower price for you. If they succeed you will pay them 30% of what they saved you, if they are not able to get you a better price you are not charged anything.

  3. Can you appeal the denial?  Other than that perhaps the Cancer Society would have some ideas.

  4. Almost all initial requests are denied.

This is especially true if you have a high school diploma.  (Don't even ask why; you are dealing with government rules...just wait until the people who run the program get to run medical care!)

    Appeal.

The person, above, who mentions the Cancer Society is on target.  That is a great idea, deserving of a Best Answer.

  5. I wish you and your husband all the strength you will need to get through this. Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions at this particular stage besides leaning on family. If you are lucky enough to have loving and supportive family members I know that they would only be to happy to help should you ask.

For yourself, and for those you want to protect should something like this happen again, I suggest critical illness insurance. This policy pays out a lump sum of tax free money when cancer, stroke or heart attack occurs. It is sold for precisely these situations.
