I will be there for a week in November and would like to purchase some wine and have it shipped back to the U.S.

I'll be in Rome, Naples and Florence.

  1. many wine shops ship internationally -- that's not a problem at all.  make sure any italian wines you purchase are DOC, which is, made in the region. this DOC designation you will see on the label.   same w/ olive oils, lemoncellos, etc...

you will find the lemoncellos & meloncellos in naples/napoli area.  super tuscans & tuscans you will find in florence/firenzi area.  while in firenzi/tuscany get out into the surrounding area to visit  montecillo, sienna areas for highest quality reds.  some of the best olive oils come out of the napoli & amalfi areas.

  2. Are you looking for an estate or a store that stocks many estates and vintages?

There are lots of places that do this. Obviously estates only ship their wine, while a store will have a variety. For stores:

L'Antica Cantina del Chianti in Piazza Duomo in Firenze (right behind the dome, off to the left) is one of the best as far as shipping rates. Note that it can be quite expensive to ship wine to the U.S. (making it not really worth it unless you are purchasing bottles of some value that are not available in the U.S.).

Another spot, with a vary large selection of wine is Alessi on Via dell'Oca between the Duomo and Piazza Signornia in Florence.

  3. I know a lot of excellent wine estates that you could visit but not in the areas you are traveling to unfortunately.

  4. I live in Florence...We are plenty...Specially in Chianti area !

Look on internet...or write to me...
