Does anyone know of a technology junkyard around Cleveland / Northeastern Ohio?

I'm looking for broken tech/electronics parts all around the Cleveland area. It doesn't have to even be hi-tech. Actually the older the better. I would go around to antique stores but most of that stuff isn't broken or junked. The items can't be in good condition cause I won't destroy something that still works. I take old junk apart and make them into jewelry/art. Not limited to tech items. Anything made up of small, neat looking parts.... metal preferred. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  1. hgr industrail surplus

  2. Go to a Goodwill or Salvation Army store.  They have to sort out what goes up for resale and what goes into the dump.  You would be shocked at the number of people who "donate" garbage-quality computers that even Salvation Army can't sell.  I think people are still bringing in pre-Pentium PC's and old Apple IIe's.  And of course there are tons of newer computers, stereos, and other electronic gear that just plain don't work.  Old TV's are another thing.  People are switching to digital sets in anticipation of the end of analog broadcasting next year.  That means the thrift stores are overloaded with them, and they have circuit boards, interesting-looking capacitors and resistors, and other stuff that could be used for art.

So go in one morning when the store first opens and ask to speak with the manager.  You may find that they are thrilled to have you take the really worthless stuff off their hands.

    Good luck!!

PS:  I notice that another answer recommends an industrial surplus store.  But the problem with HGR and places like that is that they sell _good_ used items.  You want junk to take apart--the stuff that a place like HGR wouldn't deal with.
