Question:

Does anyone know of a train (aside from Amtrak) that runs between Lincoln, NE and Kalamazoo, MI?

We want some friends to visit but Amtrak is more expensive than I thought, about $100 each way per person. They would depart from Lincoln, NE or Omaha, NE. I'm wondering if there's another train system or commuter rail I don't know about? Thanks!

  1. Indeed, unfortunately, Amtrak is your only option (just as an FYI, though, commuter rail is expected to come to Michigan soon). :o(  If you do have the means, though, traveling by train (particularly intercity) is almost always more enjoyable than by either bus or plane (it is much more relaxing).  In any event, whatever you decide, the best of luck with your travel plans.

  2. Amtrak is your only choice for rail.  Have you checked Greyhound bus prices?

  3. There's really a place called "Kalamazoo"?

    LOL!

  4. Union Paciific used to

  5. Amtrak is really the only intercity passenger train left in the US.  It may be expensive, but it's usually cheaper than driving.  And the experience is well worth it.  But if they absolutely cannot afford it, look into Greyhound.

  6. The train is a bit more money but the experience is priceless. Take the California Zephyr out of Lincoln to Chicago's Union Station and transfer to the Great lakes train. You won't be sorry.

  7. amtrak is the only train check with bus lines they might be cheaper
