Does anyone know of a volunteer program in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil?

I am from California and recently vacationed in Rio De Janeiro. I loved the city, and I am dying to return, but it is fairly expensive to visit there. (Travel accommodations are the most expensive part). I was moved by the less than desirable conditions that some of the people live in their, and am interested in doing anything I can to help out. I have been interested in volunteering abroad for some time now, and why not go somewhere I love?

I am hoping to return soon, and was interested in volunteering there for an extended period of time, as that might be an affordable way to return and I am willing and able to help out, particularly in the favelas. Does anyone know of an American based volunteer organization that goes to Rio? And what expenses are covered when you volunteer abroad?
