Question:

Does anyone know of an English speaking family therapist?

We are an American family living in the Rennes/Fougeres area, recently moved from Louisiana. We have 3 children ages 6-10 who have had to make some huge changes in the last year, leaving family and friends, starting a new school, learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, etc., and although it's a great experience in many ways, the transition has been stressful on each of us in different ways. We plan on living in France permanently. My husband works for the American embassy and speaks french fluently, but the rest of us would appreciate being able to talk things out with someone in our native language, as we are still learning French. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. We had similar problems and it was hard to find an English speaking therapist. We got our issues more less resolved through this site. Sign up and see if it will work for you. Mostly it is about the couple, but also they speak about Family circle. It is possible to speak with them online. If this doesn't work, try contacting someone you know, from your country, online.

I wish you all the best with your new start in France.

  2. Hello there. Wow, I can imagine that you are a bit stressed! That must be really difficult for all parties involved.

I live in Alsace and we have a group "Americans in Alsace". Does anything like that exist in the Rennes area? I speak French, but I know lots who don't and the other members serve as valuable resources and as a support group.

Another thought: check this out: http://france.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/pa...

English speaking doctors in France. If there isn't anyone listed in your area, try contacting a doctor in Paris or elsewhere and ask if they know anyone in your area. Often they are willing to give recommendations like this.

You could also consider checking with the tourist office-maybe start with English speaking "medecin generaliste" (general practicioner) and they could maybe also recommend someone in the area.
