Hi

My dog has a bad rash on her neck and my vet gave her fuciderm gel - I have now ran out and it cost £20 for a small tube - Does anyone know of anything else that may work

  1. You are being ripped off! I paid £7.50 + VAT, but ended up using non-perfumed Neutragena hand cream as advocated by my friend's Vet, which he swears by for rashes, grazes and cuts etc. and it worked!

  2. If you have now run out of this gel (which I don't know first hand), and if it's a steriod based gel, I think I'd be checking back with the vet before getting any more in any case, regardless of cost.  Obviously this treatment hasn't cured the problem so it probably needs to be switched.

  3. Use a nappy/diaper cream with a high % of zinc. Sodocrem is fantastic. Fuciderm Gel frightens me because it is steroidal. I used this unknowingly and it gave my dog problems, Sodocrem is more effective and its harmless.

Are you aware that grain, (including rice ) is now considered to be the cause of many skin problems,  digestives issues and diarrhoea. Try omitting grain, beef and dairy food from your dogs diet. The food that I use is based on fish and its excellent.

  4. Fuciderm Gel is a combination of fusidic acid (an antibiotic) and betamethasone valerate (a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and anti-itch properties).  This medication is used for the topical treatment of certain skin conditions in the dog such as acute moist dermatitis (“hot spots”) and skin fold dermatitis.

I would try a different vet, because i pay £8, did they charge you for the right drug. Maybe your vet is just expensive.

see web links below are around all £7. You can ask your vet for an internet prescription and then use a prescription sight, then you only pay the £7 eg, and p&p, still cheaper than your £20.
