    Interesting though.  I used to run nuclear reactors in the U.S. Navy.  I always wondered if you had enough uranium in one place if it could create it's own sustanaible reaction.  Like they mentioned in the article, it would have to be a deposit near a sufficient amount of water.

    Water slows down neutrons that are passing nearby, lowering their energy enough to where the neutrons react with the pile, creating fission of the atom.  If you get enough of this going on, you'll get a sustanable reaction, as fission of one atom releases more neutrons... which are slowed by the water... and the process continues.

    Didn't know this phenomenon actually existed, but it's pretty neat either way.
