  1. Avg

    avast

to me these two are the vest ones, and just put, outpost firewall

  2. If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

    1. AVG Free

    a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)

    b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses

    Cons: low virus detection

    2. Avast!

    a. Real-time protection

    b. It has an option to delete a virus once found

    c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.

Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface

    3. Avira AntiVir

    a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG

    b. It's cute umbrella icon

    c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses

    Cons: A very sluggish update

I advise against Norton anti-virus, it's bloated software that slows your computer down. The best anti-virus available is Kaspersky or NOD32 (recent tests at av-comparatives.org).

  3. AVG

  4. Avast

  5. AVG 8.0 Free

    Here is the link:

  6. AVG Free Edition

  7. mine's AVG the free version, works just fine

  8. there are tons at

    http://www.download.com

i personally use spybot search and destroy. its free. make sure before you download a software it says "free" at the top where it says license.

  10. I see the AVG fanboys and cheerleaders are out in full force again here on Yahoo Answers!

AVG Free Anti-Virus is pure c**p!

Mostly n00bs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

AVG has proven itself to be a miserable performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a while" updates.

There are much better free anti-virus alternatives such as Avria Anti-Vir:

    and Avast:

  11. yes and it is the best  one get avast

  12. Everyone Says AVG

Well Guess What ClamAV is the most popular on servers and works great on your Computer too

    http://www.clamwin.com/

And different from AVG there is no paid version so you get top of the line with out a dime

  13. Yes there are lots.

The most secure with the highest detection rate is Avira

    http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avi...

The one that is lightest on resources, has the best updater, and 2nd to Avira in Security is Avast

    http://avast.com/eng/download-avast-home...

AVG is decent because it has extra tools like link scanners and such, but doesn't have the same protection as Avira and avast

  14. There is no such thing like 100% free there is always a catch don't fall for it you should get norton security its affordable and very good, I know cause I have it on my pc, that is the only one that I trust you should too, other free anti virus are scams, dont fall for it

  15. All Antivirus companies are racing for the same goal. To be better than the other. This means, the larger the company, the more expensive the software they sell, the better your chances of being protected.

Since much of the large business world is protected by Symantec Corporate, this give a HUGE advantage to Norton. Another really good one is Mcafee.

I personally like Trend Micro and Kaspersky AVs

One important thing is the fact that you should completely update the Operating System and ALL of the patches.  If your machine is patched for the vulnerability on the HD, then YOU cannot get infected.  It is the more proactive approach (patching your machine, keeping your software updated, using the most current firmware and drivers).  AV is ALWAYS reactive!

    Things you want -

    1) Real time protection (yes it slows your machine down, but YOU have to have it)

    2) Signitures updated every 24 hours (and makes sure that it does so)

    3) Full system scans each night

    4) Some type of Host Based Intrusion Detection Systems

All in All, no AV is better than another. Once a virus is found, they race to update their definitions first. Symantec/Norton will not be first all of the time...

However, it DEFINITELY wont be AVG (or any OTHER free product)!

And if you want to manage 1000's of computers at once, it will most likely be Symantec Corporate!

  16. AVG is what I use.

  17. Norton is a system hog, if you are to get a paid one get kapersky anti virus
