Does anyone know of any books or websites that can help me learn more about cars/car mechanics?

I know very little about car, but I would like to learn about cars. I'd like to know the inner workings of a car. Particularly parts of the engine and transmission. Are there any comprehensive books or websites about cars that you'd recommend? Thanks.

The first book I read about engines was a high school mechanics class book.

Look into book stores that sell college or automotive school course books.
