I already know about the carnival (but not the official dates of the 2009 one) any information about fashion projects, Brazilian art museums etc etc early 2009 would be extremely helpful. I'm a fashion student...would love to get involved with anything! Any info on travelling brazil would also be appreciated...thanks!

  1. There's the so called 'Sao Paulo Fashion Week' (SPFW), a relatively huge event, the 5th fashion week in the world in number of designers (behind NY, Milan, Paris and London). The event occurs twice in the year: 3rd week of January and 3rd week of June.

About carnival: its last day, a Wednesday, is counted 40 days backwards Easter Friday.

  2. In February there is in Brazil the carnival, in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

    a brazilian

  3. There are some events mostly in São Paulo and Rio...  but mostly in São Paulo.

In January there is the São Paulo Fashion Week (winter, the summer edition starts in July), that happens at the Bienal do Ibirapuera, normally is in the last week of the month. It has runway shows of, the biggest players in the fashion industry.

In February, there is the São Paulo and Rio Carnival. If u look for a more fashion side of carnival, stick with these two states, while others states only have music as mainly atraction (Salvador as an example, where people use "Abadas" to follow the Trio Eletrico. The Abadas is nothing more that t-shirts customized and overpriced). It happens at the end of february in 2009 i think that in the last week of the month, and is a BIG party. It's a party of 5 days. You can get more info at the sites listed in sources, as the date approaches.

There are also other minor events, that happens (mainly) in São Paulo, that you can check at the aconteca eventos site. It's listed in the sources, but you have to check more close to january 2009.

If u come to São Paulo, you have to check the MASP (Museum of Art of São Paulo), the Pinacoteca do Estado, and the Museu da Língua Portuguesa Estação da Luz.

But remember, always check the dates of the events, to have sure.

How much time will u stay here? Maybe you could visit Minas Gerais, that also has beautiful places.

    Hope that helps!
