There's a series of books by Kim Harrison that's about a witch named Rachel Morgan

Also Kelley Armstrong's "Women of the Otherworld" series is good

the go to series is probably The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher, I think he's up to book 10

Try "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley or something close to that.  Strong women, earth magic in a retelling of the King Arthur story.
