  1. Yes..they are called whole grains like quinoa and whole wheat, beans, nuts and pretty much everything else you can eat has protein.

Protein is not just a product of meat.  I'm afraid your Mom fell victim to the beef industries propaganda.

  2. Well, your mom is seriously misinformed, but then she's been fed animal exploitation industry propaganda all her life.  Unless you're VERY active, you don't need that much protein.  On average, you need about .3 to .5 grams per pound of body weight.  If you eat enough calories, and they're not mostly junk food, there's no way you aren't getting enough protein.  Not to mention, too much protein causes you to lose calcium.

But if you really want the unnecessary extra protein, ClifBar makes Builder's Bars, which have 20 grams of protein each.  I have never had them, but I see them at natural foods stores, Whole Foods, and even some drug stores and Bed Bath & Beyond!

There's nothing your body needs that you can't get from plant foods, except vitamin B12, and if you eat foods fortified with it and take a multivitamin with B12, you should be fine.

  3. whey protein

    Spirulina

    Chlorella

  4. You do not need a supplement. You just need to incorporate protein-rich foods into your diet.

Here is a link with various vegetarian foods and the grams of protein each has:

    http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/protein.htm

Soy is a complete protein. It is considered "common knowledge" that combining rice with beans creates a complete protien (although some do disagree with this I am passing the info. on).

"As all plant foods--including fruit--contain some protein, by eating a

variety of fruits, vegetables and grains, even vegans probably can get enough

of this nutrient. To improve the quality of protein and ensure getting enough:

                                       Combine

legumes such as black-eyed peas, chickpeas, peas, peanuts, lentils, sprouts,

and black, broad, kidney, lima, mung, navy, pea, and soy beans

                                         with

grains such as rice, wheat, corn, rye, bulgur, oats, millet, barley, and

    buckwheat." from the FDA site:

    http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/CONSUMER/C...

    Hope this helps!

  5. All of these other suggestions are ok, but the best supplement I found that has the highest protein and B-12 in one supplement was Klamath Blue Green Algae. Its not cheap, like $40 a bottle but it really helped me when I bacame Vegan and was lacking in protein. Heres a link.

  6. The asker asked for protein supplements, not, if in your opinion, he should take them or not.

While proteins are readily available in many non-meat forms such as beans and nuts, supplements may be more convenient for you. Here is a site that can help you choose which protein supplement is right for you.

  7. foods with good amounts of protein:

    potatoe

    beans

    sunflower seeds

    soymilk

    nuts

    grains

    legumes ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legume )

eggs (i don't know if u believe in eating them though)

dairy products (such as milk & cheese)

i'm not going to eat anymore animals either cuz of this video

  8. u dont need supplements and quit thinking that vegans dont have enough nutrition in their diet....its gravely wrong....vegg food is nutritious...

  9. That's great you want to go veg!

Good vegetarian sources of protein include almonds, black beans, cashews, fake meats, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, lentils, peanut butter, pinto beans, seitan, soybeans, soymilk, sunflower seeds, textured vegetable protein (TVP), and tofu.

Vegetarians get all of the vitamins and nutrients they need by eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains. It's not necessary to take protein pills or powders. You could get the SPIRU-TEIN shakes, they have 14 grams of protein in one scoop. http://www.spiru-tein.com/20flavors.asp

You could print out this page and show it to your mom. It lists vegetarian foods high in protein, iron, and calcium: http://www.tryveg.com/cfi/toc/?v=08sourc...

    Good luck.

  10. There is no such thing as protein supplements. There are no need for them because protein is everywhere! You cannot avoid it! Your mother is misinformed I'm afraid.

  11. You don't need a supplement - you just need to learn to eat like a healthy vegetarian.

  12. a good supplement is nitro-tech by muscletech....u can buy it at GNC...they have it in many delicious flavors. and many prices.. they also have protein bars and stuff. just ask them they will tell you
