Does anyone know of any good soy-less Veggie Burgers?

I'm a vegetarian and I just found out that Soy is like SUPERBAD for your health (it mimics estrogen and hurts you if used over a prolonged amount of time) and i'm used to using Boca Burgers (made with soy) as a quick meat substitute to my meals but now I can't do that. :( I'm looking for something like Boca Burgers minus the soy... I know Gardenburger makes something called "The Garden Vegan". I also know that hemp burgers exist but i don't know if their THC levels are okay for everyday consumption. Thank you

  1. Try Sunshine Burgers. They're soy free and made with sunflower seeds, rice, and veggies. Whole Foods carries them.

  2. One of my favorite soy-free and vegan veggie burgers is made by "Amy's", which is an organic frozen foods company. They make a "California Burger" which is made from mushrooms primarily, and it is delicious. There is also a brand called "Sunshine Burger" that I haven't tried... I believe they're sold in the refrigerated section not the freezer. I can't name any other specific brands off the top of my head, but if you search for soy-free vegan foods, you will probably find quite a few types to look for.

If you're adventurous, you could play around with making your own. Rice, lentils, mushrooms, seitan, potato... these are some examples of what you could use as a 'base' for your burgers. Good luck!

  3. Garden burger has good substitute burgers, if you like mushrooms,  or just make a good old avacado burger.  They taste good!  Unless you have a craving for a meat like substitute, you can make some good veggie only burgers too!

  4. Awhile ago in the grocery store I saw lentil burgers, I'm not vegetarian so I didnt really read the package, but thats something you could look into.

  5. The makers of Falafel mixes in boxes (eg. Casbah) have a Nature's Burger mix, usually from chickpeas and/fava beans -- you can add shredded veggies to the mix and cook up really yummy ones. Available in Whole Foods and good grocery stores.

If you like cooking and making things from scratch check this site for one made with buckwheat and lentils -- site has step-by-step pictures...http://jeenaskitchen.blogspot.com/

  6. What little estrogen mimicking substances in soy there are, it's so little that it won't hurt you. You would have to eat like 7 veggie burgers a day for it to do anything to you. Just eat the soy patties.
