Does anyone know of any haunted buildings where the ghosts are of people of color?

I was discussing haunted places with my son, and he asked me how come you never hear of haunted houses or buildings in Black neighborhoods. It does seem like the "famous" ghosts are Europeans. So now I'm curious...has anyone here heard of such phenomena or have a website to direct me to?

  1. Many old slave ports have Black ghosts.

Old plantations as well as houses found along the "underground railroad" have lots of Black ghosts.

  2. Myrtles Plantation's ghost, Chloe, is often featured on haunted history shows on TLC and the Discovery Channel.

Here are a couple of links:

  3. The closest thing I know of is Bachelor's Grove Cemetery in Midlothian, Illinois, which is supposed to be home to a variety of frightening ghosts -- one of which is a glowing yellow man!

  4. I'm sure you can find many haunted plantations in the South where the ghosts are dead slaves.

Hickory Hill (The Old Slave House) in Southern Illinois http://prarieghosts.com/slave.html

  5. Yes I just read about it yesterday. It is in MONARCH by Allison Dubois. She was in a house down in the basement. She said there use to be "people of color" down there playing cards. I hope I offend anyone but that was her words. I'm sure if you believe (such as I) there are places everywhere of differnet nationalty to  be found. Infact I saw an awsome movie on lifetime. It was based on a haunted island up north (maybe MASS.) and a black lady hauted it b/c she didn't like the owner of the house. It was very, very good!

  6. Check out some ghost towns in California. There are some spooky stuff there. Also in a ghost town in North Carolina there's some huge houses that have been known for ghosts.

  7. I very much believe that ALL locales are inhabited by the energies of persons who have passed on.

If this is the case, any place would be home to a number of noncorporeal "beings" of many different races, creeds, colors, languages, etc.

A theory is held that spirit energies are strongest where mental and

emotional energies are spent in high volume during the living years.

Having said that, it may very well be true that some of the very old homes (plantation houses, etc.) in the southernmost half of the US may very well be wellsprings of spirit activity, given the slave-holding that occured there in the early days of this country.

  8. Quick note: every person is "of color" since no race is colorless ;)

I have always been into ghosts and over the years collected many books on the subject. There are a few young adult books on the specific subject of black ghosts. Moaning Bones: African-American Ghost Stories contains various short stories on the subject. As with any ghost stories, many of the stories in this book may be just that. A similar book is the Headless Haunt and Other African-American Ghost Stories. Your son might like these books!

A quick Google search also pulled up a web site on the subject of ghosts which included a reference to an Ohio haunting involving black ghosts. Here is the link: http://www.invink.com/teacher2.html

    Hops this helps!
