Does anyone know of any helicopter flight instructor position openings?

My brother in law went to school in Prescott and they cannot afford to hire anyone this year as they are not doing well with enrollment etc... he desperately needs a job to obtain fly time for a pilot job. He would really like to be near Montana but I do know you cannot get too picky. Where can we look and how to get his foot in the door somewhere. I know schools generally employ their own students so, what now? Help!!

  1. There's only one thing to do: apply for jobs with every flight school you can find until one hires you. It's going to be tough, especially with several hundred ex-SSH CFI's out there also hunting for jobs, and many of them have more hours. Start with the schools closest to you and work your way out. Visiting them in person will greatly improve your chances, and will likely be worth the expense. You're going to have to get aggressive and you may have to accept a job and/or location that is less than ideal.

Hunt through phonebooks and the internet for schools. Don't hesitate to send anyone a resume or visit them even if they don't have a job opening posted somewhere. Talk to people at your flight school too. They may know of opportunities through the grapevine. Keep attacking until you find something that works. It may happen sooner, or it may happen later, but it WILL happen if you are determined enough.

Here are some flight school listings to help you look:

Here is a school in Montana. I am not sure if it is the one where he trained or not.

You might also encourage him to visit the online pilot forums. There is a lot of BS on there, but some good information too.

Lastly, there are other opportunities to build time other than instructing, but they are few and far between. It is also difficult to learn about them. You might read this forum topic for a more thorough discussion:

    Good luck!

  2. I'd get out of Montana, go somewhere where there is more training going on like California.  Then he has to meet people, network, and then maybe he can get in somewhere.  Its gonna be tough for him but thats the way aviation is.  He has to go where the work is.
