  1. Henry VIII had six wives....he put aside the first one, the true queen so that he could marry a younger, prettier woman (Anne Boleyn)who promised him a nursery full of princes. That fell thorugh (with the birth of Elizabeth I) and he chopped off her head. On the day that Boleyn was beheaded, he was formally engaged to Jane Seymour, the only woman who provided him with a male heir. She died soon after childbirth of childbed fever. Many critical historians say that he was only so affectionate of her after her death because she did give him a son. In fact, before her pregnancy , Henry was getting suspicious of her and planning to have her questioned as well. And then he briefly married Anne of Cleves, who he put aside because she was fat and smelled. However she also said that he repulsed her. But they were affectionate enough after the annulment, and he even called her "sister". And then he married Anne Boleyn's cousin, Katherine Howard, a 15 year old girl who was virgin in name alone. She had apparently been sexually active since age 11 (a common age then, since they were married so young) with her various tutors, and had a young love who she had been engaged to. The King found and was none too pleased that she had come to their marriage bed 'previously had'  and that she had been engaged. She went the way of her unfortunate cousin Anne Boleyn, locked up in the Tower, and beheaded. Apparently she was so distraught, she had to be carried to the executioner's block, whimpering like a small child. And then finally came Katherine Parr. She was no foolish girl of 15, but a grown woman of 31. She managed to cleverly keep her head on until the death of Hery VIII; though he too was planning on having her arrested and questioned. When Anne Boleyn had the Queen Catherine overthrown, she put into Henry's head that a King is sort of like God in his own right; once he got that taste of power, he never let go of it.

The scam was exposed when a detective, posing as a royal aide, met the two men in a London hotel on 11 September.
